Emulation: Eileen Cowin

My Picture

With this emulation I think my colors were brighter than hers but I like how it was brighter. I don't like when a picture has dull colors, I don't think the image is interesting to look at then. I like how this emulation turned out to be even though its not the same as the picture. But it has the same concept as her. I think this was my best emulation so far, because the lighting was really good with this photo I think. I had a lot of natural light in it, instead of just the ordinary household lights, this is my favorite emulation.

My Photo
With my picture I again had problems with the lighting and I think if I had better lighting this picture would have been a lot better. The only difference about her picture with mine is that I had orange nail polish on and that we used different hands otherwise I think I matched the picture very well. I really like how the black brings out the orange in my nails a lot, I think it makes the picture a lot better. I like how this emulation turned out.

Her Photo

I chose to Emulate Eileen Cowin for my other artist, because I really liked the photo's she took. They were not photos you would see everyday and they were interesting.

Emulation: Gretchen Garner

My Photo
I attempted to create an emulation of her still life picture, because i really like with all her still life pictures she has a color theme to them. I chose this one because green is my favorite color, and my kitchen just has a lot of green in it. With this picture again I think if i had better lighting the colors would pop out more like in her picture but the lighting was bad in my kitchen. Also, not all the objects are the same but i still got the same concept as what she did, I left out an object or too but that doesn't really matter. Again with this photo I accomplished what my goal was and I think I emulated it very well.

Photo Two:

My Photo
I attempted to create the same photo as Gretchen did but my colors did not come out as bright as hers which i was disappointed in. Also, I couldn't find just a branch with flower buds on it so my branch's flowers are already bloomed. The thing i like about this picture is that I matched the curve i think pretty well, and I think I matched the picture pretty well. Maybe if I had better lighting the picture would have turned out a little better with brighter colors.
Her Photo
I chose to emulate Gretchen Garner because I like her style of pictures. I like that she uses the black background because it catches and makes the colors of the object you are taking a picture of much brighter and jump out at you.

Color on the Couch

With this picture i am focusing on the color yellow, which is associated with happiness. I took some yellow flowers my sister got from her boyfriend, and had mikayla wear a yellow shirt holding the flowers and smiling. I think this picture gets the meaning past a lot because when you recieve flowers your happy, and with how bright it is it looks like summer, and her smiling just you can tell she is happy. I used color balance on this picture and it dulled out the colors but i like how it did it, because before it was really bright. This is my favorite picture that i took for this project, i just really like how it turned out.
This picture i am focusing on the color light blue. The meaning/ association i found for light blue was heaven. So on saturday when the sky was really clear and blue, i had mikayla stand in my backyard looking up, like she is looking into heaven. I like how this picture turned out because there is really no other colors other than light blue, and in the top left corner of the picture it becomes really light from the sun, but it could represent the light from heaven. The only problem i can see with this picture is that you can't really see where she is looking directly and the only reason i didn't fix it was because the sun was too bright for the picture and the sky was like white. But i still really like this picture because you can see she is looking up into the sky. I used color balance on this picture and it make the green a little brighter but also helped the blue out a lot.

This picture i am using the color black to represent. On the website i was looking at black's meaning can be associated with death. So Mikalya and I went to the cemetary and found a black tombstone, which kind of looks gray because of the sun. I took many different angles of the picture but i really like how this one turned out. You see the back of her but yet when looking into the tombstone you see the reflection of her praying. Also, i really like how she kind of leads you to the tombstone, i didn't use color balance on this picture because it made the picture to green and bright. I had mikayla wear a black dress to also represent the color even more, i really like how this picture turned out.

This picture i am representing the color dark green. After looking at some meanings of the color i came to a website that said dark green is sometimes associated with money and greed. At first i was gonna have a someone holding money with money surrounding them but i didn't like how the picture turned out. So, then i tried this was and really liked it, because the dollars in the front are like leading you to the rest of the money spread out on the body pillow. I used my digital macro setting which i really liked because it blurred the money in the background but really got the details of the money in the front. This is not my favorite picture but i liked how the finish project looks.

This picture is my picture for the yellow wallpaper illustration. I had my friend Mikayla stand by my bedroom window at night, because the girl in the story watched the moon at night through the window. I also had her wear a dull yellow color because of the dull yellow wallpaper that drove the lady crazy in the story. Mikayla had just got done with a soccer game so she still had the yellow prewrap in her hair which i liked because it even brought more yellow into the picture. I then had her hold a notebook, like she was writting the story, which the story was the journal the lady was writting in. I used the color balance tool which i really liked how the colors became more dull which went good with the meaning of the picture, because in the story she described the colors to be real dull. I also really like how her reflection is in the window, it could represent the ghost the lady thought she was seeing.

Andy Goldsworthy

With this picture again I didn't have to use the color balance tool, because all the colors are similar and they have there natural color towards them. I had to crop this photo, so I wasn't breaking the rule of thirds, but I would say this is not my best photo. I think this because it is really hard to tell what the focal point is which is the stick that makes the circle, but it blends in with the background, so it's hard to see. I didn't make this sculpture I just found it in my woods and I thought it was really cool how the stick wrapped itself around the tree.
This is the second picture I took; I found a dirt pile in the back of my yard, and I live right in front of woods. So I found some twigs on the ground, and took some leaves off one of the trees. I then placed them on this pile of dirt trying to imitate a tree branch. I like how this picture turned out because of the colors they are really natural and I think its really cool, because I didn't even use color balance on this photo.

This is the first photo I took for our Andy Goldsworthy assignment. I created a flower using materials i found around my yard and then just a patch of dirt that we are trying to grow grass which is what the seeds are for in the background. At first i wanted to use a patch of grass in my yard, but then the green leaves and stem blended in and the flowers were not sitting right on the ground, so i had to move to a flatter surface. To create this image, I used the rocks underneath my porch to make it look like the flower was in a rock garden. Than I picked to leaves off a tree in my yard, and a dandelion from my yard, also I took a flower that always grows by my house and pulled the petals off of it, and then i found a dead flower and twisted the stem off. I put them all together to make a flower and then spread the rocks out so it looked like it grew out from the rocks. After, I took the picture I had to crop it, so I didn't break the rule of thirds and also there was just extra dirt that wasn't needed. After cropping it, I used the color balance tool, which i really liked the turn out because it make the red flower petals much brighter, and dulled down the dirt background, also didn't make the rocks look so bright because of my flash. I really like how the finish product of this photo turned out.

About Andy Goldsworthy:
Andy Goldsworthy is a 52 year old British sculptor, photographer, and an environmentalist. Goldsworthy studied art at both Bradford Art College and Lancaster Art College. He uses any materials he can get his hands on outside, to make his sculptures. He takes the photographs of his work to document and capture the beauty of his work. He does his land art all around the world and doesn't have one specific place he builds his art at. He has been making land art since the late 1970's in both natural and urban enviroments. Goldsworthy has made more than 70 exhibitions and projects all over the world. I really like the style of his pictures, I like the creativity he has to make all these sculptures. Also, I really like how all his pictures turn out, like the angels he uses, his pictures always turn out amazing. When I try to imitate his style, I am going to try use all different angels, and get really creative with the sculptures I use.

Attractive/Repulsive Photos

This is the second repulsive photo I took; again I took it outside just because I think the lighting is better outside than inside. I thought this would work well for this project because cigarettes are disgusting, but yet the background has great color and it is a pretty background. I set the ashtray so that the cigarette butts were like leading you off into the background, but again with this picture I used my digital macro setting, so that the cigarette butts are main focus of the picture. Also, with this picture I used the color balance tool.

This is the first repulsive photo I took; I took it because the strawberries still had a bright red color to them but also had the mold. I took the picture outside on my back porch just because I love the natural light then the ordinary household lights. I really like this picture because the first strawberry is like leading you to the others and off into the grass, which I really like because the grass is blurry and you really focus on the strawberries. I used the digital macro setting on my camera to really get the details of the strawberries and the colors of the mold, because it is a green and white color. I also used color balance on this photo and I really like how it turned out.

This is the second attractive picture I took; I took it outside after I found this sun leaning against my garage. I used my digital macro setting to really get the details of the sun, and the color balance tool to really enhance the colors. I put it off to the side so I wouldn’t break the rule of thirds, also because then you get a nice view of the background too. You may not think this picture is that attractive, but when I think of sun I think of oceans and Mexico. I think that oceans and Mexico are so beautiful, so the image of the sun is really attractive to me. The lighting of the picture is also very helpful for the colors in the picture, which I believe, make the picture.
This was the first attractive picture I took; it was in my neighbors yard by a tree with an angel wind chime hanging from it. They are there because her daughter passed away with cancer at a very young age, and she always says that her daughter is her angel. I thought this would work well for my attraction picture because angels are beautiful, but also the reason they are there I think is beautiful. I also really like how the angels are in a line, they are leading you off into the background also, but yet the background is not taking the focus away from the angels. I used the color balance tool and now this picture has great color and is one of my favorites, I also really like how this picture turned out.

Gregory Crewdson

This picture by Gregory Crewdson is my favorite, it does not have a title but was taken the summer of 2006. It's a great picture i believe, it follows many guidelines that we talked about in class and they really help the picture. The trees and the bridge frame the photo which helps you focus on the little boy, but then you notice the little boy is looking up so you follow his head and look at the top of the photo. Also, the dirt path the boy is on, really shows depth in the picture because you can see it fading away behind the boy. I really like how Gregory used all these guidelines to help really enhance his photo. It looks like he blurred the boy and the woods behind him, and really focused in on the trees and the bridge in front, which also help create the depth in the picture. In many of his other photos Gregory really uses the line guideline to help his picture to become what it is. Also, he usually uses more than one of the guidelines which i really like, because it makes the picture so much more. Out of the four artists we had to choose from, Gregory Crewdson is by far my favorite.

Digital photo montage 2

My friends and family are the most important thing to me in my life, and really help me choose what is right for me. So with this montage, i decided to take a picture of my friend since kindergarden pointing and also a picture of my sister pointing. Then i put them over the road trying to get the message friends and family point you in the direction you should go. I was nervous at first with this because i thought the picture of my sister and chelsea were going to look like they were pointing in different directions, but it ended up being that the pictures look like the are pointing straight down the road. I also really like the finished product of this montage too.
